Why would a cache be hidden here?
...because of the story of course!
Some time between 1996-1999, when Keaau Elementary and Keaau High were being constructed, this area was used as staging for the heavy construction equipment.
Smack in the middle of the turn-around/parking area was this semi-large boulder, just over 5' tall and pretty heavy, but nothing that today's construction equipment couldn't handle. The contractors wondered why it hadn't been moved, as the rest of the area was obviously cleared.
As the story goes, several attempts were made to move the boulder, but at each attempt, the bulldozer or other equipment would breakdown or simply refuse to start. Supposedly, the workers even succeeded on a few attempts, but were stymied to find the boulder returned to it's original location the next morning.
Today the boulder is still there, but it's pretty overgrown with tall grass. The cache should be a pretty easy find - please put things back the way they were to keep it hidden. Mahalo!
