Geocache Description:

A quick grab next to a peaceful temple. Yet come at the right time, and you'll hear the booming sounds of Puna Taiko as we rehearse/train.

The Puna Hongwanji Mission is a Shin-Buddhist Temple and has been standing on this location for over a 100 years.

The large bodhi tree behind the parking area is significant as it's the same type of tree that provided shade to the Buddha as he attained enlightenment. Interestingly, this tree sheds its heart-shaped leaves in it's entirety during the summer, only to regain it's foliage in a matter of days.

In the front of the property is a memorial to the Shipman family who donated the land that the temple stands on.

The most noteworthy event at Puna Hongwanji is the popular O-Bon Festival, held in July. Traditionally, the O-Bon Dance is held to welcome the spirits of the departed, but has taken on a more secular meaning in modern times - most O-Bon festivals are known for fellowship and 'ono' local food as well as the dancing.

The cache is a micro - log and pencil stub only. There's a little bit of room for tiny swag if people are so inclined.

It's right next to the street, so use discretion...Lately, a lot of middle-school muggles have taken to hanging out near GZ.
