Geocache Description:

From this vantage point you can see the interchange of the N1 and R21 Highways.

A micro slightly smaller than a film canister, hidden on an undeveloped plot close to a water reservoir. Beware of muggles in surrounding houses.

The Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) comprises different phases to upgrade and implement new freeways of an ultimate 560km freeway network. The first phase, comprising the upgrading of 185km of the most congested freeways is currently under construction (a total of 15 work packages).

Prior to the project, the intersection of the N1 and the R21 freeways was by a conventional clover-leaf. In order to transfer from the R21 North to the N1 North, it was necessary to first cross over the N1 highway then branch off to the left and continue turning left in a gentle descending turn until 270 degree was completed, at which point the N1 highway was then joined in the furthermost left lane (beneath the R21).

One of the significant improvements as a result of the GFIP is the "flyover" bridge that now takes the R21 North over the R21 to join with the N1 North. This improvement substantially reduces traffic congestion and in doing so lessens carbon emissions and saves us time.

Best time to visit the cache is late afternoon because you'll be rewarded with a pretty sunset if the weather is kind.
