Camoed film canister sized cache in obvious place. Room for limited small SWAG. Original contents: log, compass rose coin, 2 fabric rings, 2 silly bands, 2 marbles.
You are standing in the driveway of the historic Kimber family house. This Lake Tahoe like open space was once owned by John & Alice Kimber, who started Kimber Farms on the property. The Christian Community Church on Mission Boulevard, to the west, was originally the research headquarters of the company. Kimber Farms was a pioneer in poultry genetics. In the 1950s, KimberCHIKS were distributed nationwide. Many scientific achievements were pioneered on this property, including the development of measles vaccine from virus free Kimber chick eggs.
In 1974 the property was acquired by Shappell Industries, at the same time the company was sold to Dekalb Poultry Research. Kimber Park was designed and approved as a Planned Development with Covenants & Restrictions. The development is centered on the 12.7 acre park which originally featured a tree lined lake (since filled in) on which a private tennis club was to be created. An additional 51.9 acres was dedicated to natural open space, mostly towards the east part of the property. The tennis club opened in 1976, & was open to the public for membership.
Over the years, a series of owners have purchased the property and attempted to change the zoning. Each time the homeowners & city have turned down these attempts. The property is again under dispute, with the current landowner closing the tennis club with short notice & fencing the property.
So, as you stand across the street, take in the park like setting, and try to imagine the area as it was in the time of John & Alice Kimber. Envision the pedestrian trails, the lake (with boat dock), the deer, the wild turkeys & see if you can spot the mating pair of endangered white tailed kites. Personal compass rose coin for FTF.
This cache is placed with the permission of the homeowner so please be respectful. It is on an easement on public property. You shouldn't need to go more than 20-25' from the street. The green gate marks the start of private property, but you shouldn't be anywhere close to it, barbed wire or or loose dirt.
