Geocache Description:

Cache is located in Hungry Mother State Park a short distance from Marion, VA on state route 16.
Effective January 1, 2009 Daily Parking Fees for Passenger Vehicles; Weekdays $2 Weekends $3

This cache will take a little extra effort for the smiley. I placed this cache to help the boys in my Scout Troop satisfy some requirements for rank advancement and to also complete a couple for the Orienteering Merit Badge. You will need a compass and you will need to know your pace. We use two steps as a pace in our training of orienteering with the Scouts. I had 7 scouts that ran this course and they all came within 25 feet of the container. The closest one to the hide was standing four feet away. Be sure to copy the hints to have with you. There will be 5 stages in finding this cache. None of the steps except #1 will have cords and none of the others will have containers except #5 and the cords are hidden from it. Stage#1 will be your starting point with the cords listed N 36 53.520 W 081 31.704. These cords will bring you to a 7 inch tree with a yellow blaze on both sides about four feet off the ground.
Stage#2 Standing on the left of the dual blazed tree looking down the hill take a bearing of 140 degrees and walk 80 feet. You will be standing beside #2 hint.
Stage#3 Standing to the right of hint #2 take a bearing of 140 degrees and walk 72 feet to hint #3.
Stage#4 Standing beside hint #3 take a bearing of 75 degrees and walk 69 feet to hint #4.
Stage#5 Standing in front of hint #4 take a bearing of 272 degrees and walk 60 feet to the last hint #5 and look, find, and sign.
Please replace the container (50 cal. Ammo can) back as well or better than you found it for the enjoyment of the next cacher. Remember to cache in and trash out to help the Park remain clean for the next person.
Thanks,

Note:
In all Virginia state parks you have to have permission to hide a geocache. Stop by the Headquarters building in the park and ask to talk to the official in charge of reviewing the Geocache Placement Application you will have to obtain from them. Let them be aware of your desire to hide and maintain a geocache in the park. Most parks may ask you to “not” make the cache for Premium members to allow the general plumbic the opportunity hunt while visiting the park. All my caches have been placed by permission at Hungry Mother State Park.
