Geocache Description:

At 1164m, Mount Hobwee is one of the highest peaks in the Lamington National Park. The cache is not at the listed co-ordinates but you'll need to go there to collect the clues to help you find it.

The view from the summit is somewhat obscured by rainforest, but that shouldn't spoil your sense of achievement in getting to this unique location. Take the Border Track from Binna Burra and branch off at approx 5.5km gradually ascending a track that curves out on a long spur of the Beechmont Range. Along the way Orchid Bower and Araucaria Lookouts offer spectacular panoramic views of the Mt Warning caldera and the Springbrook Range as you follow the spur towards Mt Hobwee. Ascend the Mt Hobwee track, ancient Antarctic beech trees, remnants of Gondwanan forests, grow in the cool temperate rainforest that exists here. On your way up you'll pass a small lookout with a flat rock offering great views west along the Mt. Warning caldera. This is an ideal place to stop for a rest and lunch on the way back down from the summit. After re-joining the main track, take a side trip to Dacelo lookout for one last look at Mt Warning before joining up with the Border Track and heading back to Binna Burra. From Binna Burra our GPSr measured 22km round trip including the lookouts and took us 5.5hrs including stops. This cache can also be tackled from the Numinbah Valley Border gate via Bushrangers Caves, our Way-Gawn cache and via the Binna Burra walking tracks. This route is shorter but much harder and steeper. There is a supplementary log book placed near the Border Gate for you to sign if you do it from this direction. Solve the puzzle, then apply the off-set to find the log. At the summit of Mt. Hobwee is a NP sign. There is also a sign at the nearby lookout with the flat rock. Using the letters and words from BOTH these signs combined, GZ is at: S 28 11.ABC E153 11.XYZ Where: A = total number of letters 'O+T' B = total number of letter 'L' C = total number of letter 'B' X = total number of letter 'E' Y = total number of letter 'R' Z = total number of letter 'D+M' Checksum A+B+C+X+Y+Z = 18 Off-set for Border Gate supplementary log book. S +3.847 E +2.854 Enjoy. In the logbook you'll find a number which you'll need to find our "Herbz Challenge" cache http://coord.info/GC3FGJF
