Welcome to Drake Harbor! Drake Harbor was named after long-time resident and Mayor of Warsaw, Gordon Howard Drake. The Harbor is located on the Osage River. This area was a natural habitat for the Osage Native American Tribe with its hills, wooded hunting grounds and river basin. The superior quality of flint rock in the area supplied the native people with arrows, knives and other weapons. In the early 1800’s this river became a hub to immigration until the city of Warsaw was first settled in 1820. From its beginning, Warsaw was the crossroads of travel and freight. As early as 1820 a ferry operated on the Osage River by Lewis Bledsoe near where the Truman Dam sits today. In 1837 the first steamboats traveled the river and docked in Warsaw. Commodities were regularly transported up and down this river. In 1854, Warsaw alone shipped 144 bales of deer skins. In the mid-1850’s seven St. Louis steamboats could be seen at the wharf at Warsaw at any one time. So sit back, relax and enjoy the view. If you have some time to spare, feel free to walk along our newly constructed Steamboat Landing. You are looking for a nanocache with a log only. You will need to bring your own pen. You may need tweezers to get out the log. We hope you enjoy this as it is our first placed cache. Please place back in exact spot! Permission was granted by Warsaw Parks and Recreation Director Mac Vorce. Congrats to Legend Hill who was FTF!!
