Geocache Description:

Carl Gustav Jacob Jacobi was a 19th century German mathematician who had a unique way of looking at problems. His thinking was that you could often find solutions and better understand things by looking at the inverse process. This approach led to the development of elliptic functions. These functions have been used in many branches of mathematics. Jacobi also gave us the Jacobian matrix which is used when transforming a coordinate system into one that is easier to use (such as polar or spherical).
