Bygone Bridge Traditional Cache

Finished in 1875 after six years of construction, the Buccarumbi Bridge was 15.5 meters above the river to allow access across in times of flood, only to be washed away in a huge flood in 1946. This flood brought an incredible amount of debris down the river which built up behind the bridge like causing water to dam up, and when the pressure became too much the bridge piers suddenly broke taking the Allan truss and deck structure with it. These trusses were usually made from Ironbark timber, with iron or steel rods for vertical tension members. The piers were cast iron with webbing and infilled with concrete, anchored to the river bedrock rock, with steel anchor cables tied to the bedrock with eyebolts. These can still be seen embedded in the rock with some of the eyes opened, along with some of the piers and concrete abutments. The Allan truss has long since gone. There is a new cache out here making logging a lot easier than trying to access the log inside the tree. Coordinates are for the new cache. Please take precautions as there are nasty biting ants here.
