Geocache Description:

The cache IS at the posted coordinates, but you must complete the below requirements before logging. (per Groundspeak's guidelines you don't HAVE to finish the challenge in order to find this cache, but I ask that you at least hold off on FTF until someone who does qualify has found it.)

Geocaching has brought me to some really wonderful places I never would have thought to visit without it and while I haven’t come close to doling out my favorites points I do like to acknowledge when a cache has been particular challenging or clever or in a stunning setting. This challenge is meant to encourage people to make an effort to visit the very best caches the state has to offer, as decided by us, the cachers.

And if you are like me, and don’t always remember to click that little button, this might be a good incentive to help those caches we all know are worthy to make their way to the top of the list. After all, the list is not set in stone and may change at any time.

CHALLENGE

The challenge is to find 15 of the 20 most favorited caches in Vermont. Some of you may have already found all 20 of them. Here is how you get to the list of qualified caches.

1. Click on the "Hide and Seek A Cache" tab.
2. Select Vermont in the "by State/Province: tab and hit GO
3. Click on the image on the top of the favorites column.

This should bring up the 20 most favorited caches in Vermont.

To be eligible to find the final geocache container for this challenge continue on with these very simple steps.

1. At the time you decide to accept this challenge post a note on this cache page listing that day's current Top 20 geocaches in the state of Vermont.
2. Go find and log 15 of those 20 caches.
3. When you get to log the final, list the geocaches you found and the date you found them in your cache log on this page. (A bookmark may also be used to substitute writing out another list that includes your found dates)
4. I will check your lists to verify if any caches should be listed that are not.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

1. Do previous finds count? – Yes
2. What if the Top 20 in Vermont change before I finish finding them? - You only need to find the 15 of the Top 20 that you opted in for as posted in your note.
3. If the Top 20 changed and I like that list better can I start all over? - Sure, just delete your first note listing, post a new opt in list and continue with your Top 20 challenge.
4. Can I just edit my original opted in note? NO, please delete original and create a new note. No edited notes will be honored.
5. What if there is a tie for 20th place? - Just use the 20 favorites that show on the first page. That's your qualifying Top 20.
6. Can I substitute favorites from other states? - No this challenge is for caches in the state of Vermont only.
7. If the "Best of Vermont Challenge" cache ever makes it to the Top 20 favorites in Vermont will it count? - Yes, why not?
8. If I am the cache owner of a Top 20 listed cache can I count it as a qualifier? - Yes, just use the date you hid it to qualify yourself.
9. If I adopted a cache that is in the Top 20, can I count it? - Well if you have actually been there where it is hidden and/or completed that caches finding requirements yourself then sure why not?
10. What if one of my opt in Top 20 get archived before I find the final? - Two answers for that one.
a. If you already found the archived cache you opted in for then itstill counts.
b. If you had not found the archived cache yet then you need to make an adjustment to your list.

I would like to Thank 79-CJ7 for the idea of this challenge and letting me place one here as well.

ABOUT THE HIDE

The cache itself is hidden in Black Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in Berlin and a lovely place I never knew existed before today. I love old cemeteries and figured this would be a perfect place to put it. The land all around the cemetery is heavily posted and there is no need to leave the confines of the stone wall to find the cache. Please do not tear the wall apart looking for the cache! Look with your eyes first, as you shouldn't need to move anything at all to find it. I am going to put a very explicit hint on the cache page in order to aid in preserving this area. If things get torn up I will have to archive it, and it would be a shame for people not to see this great hidden spot.

The cache is technically available in winter, but not necessarily winter friendly. Also, as with most cemeteries, people get a bit nervous if there is too much night time activity, so daylight hunting is recommended.

I rated this cache a 5/5 due to the ratings of the required caches at time of publish. If you found all 20 of the top 20 right now you would have to compelete one 4.5/4.5 and another 5/5 cache to do so. Granted, you could probably get away with just doing 3/3s and under, but you would still put on a ton of miles to do so. The hide itself is closer to a 2/2.
