Let's Swing Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Deceangi: Rather than keep this cache temporarily disabled (which should only be used for shortish periods) I'm archiving it. If/when the cache is ever replaced I'll gladly unarchive it assuming it still meets the guidelines.

Please avoid geolitter by removing any remaining traces of your cache or contact a local cacher to do so for you. If you are having difficulty doing so then please contact me via my profile and I will try to get someone to assist. This is particularly important if your cache appears to contain Travelbugs or Geocoins.

Geocache Description:

Accessible via Old River Road or West Quay, the cache is a micro container and only holds a log with no pencil. Might need tweezers to get log book out of cache.

Ramsey Harbour swing bridge links the main part of the town of Ramsey to the Mooragh Promenade which runs along the seafront. It carries both a road and a footway over the River Sulby.

The bridge consists of two pairs of steel trussed arches, each pair spanning 64m to the central pivot point. It is supported at this central point by a circular pier of dressed masonry. The turning mechanism is electrically operated.

The roadway is 3.8m wide and the footway 0.76m. Traffic weights and speeds over the bridge have been restricted for many years.

The approach on the northern side is via a low eight-span viaduct. The road is carried on longitudinal steel beams at 915mm centres spanning between pairs of circular cast iron columns of about 430mm, all on a slight curve. The main beams carry transverse steel beams, which in turn carry smaller longitudinal beams supporting the deck.
