Novel Cache: Where Eagles Dare
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
A disguised cache with log book but please bring your own pen.
This is one of the series of Novel Caches which have a disguise in some way linked to the name of the cache.
They are mostly micros in the series but a few are larger and have room for small swaps.
We hope you have as much fun finding them as we did when we set them.
This cache is dedicated to the book by Alistair MacLean. He wrote the novel and the screenplay at the same time. It was his first screenplay and both film and book became commercial successes.
It is World War II, in the winter of 1943-44; U.S. Army Brigadier General George Carnaby, one of the chief planners of D-Day, is captured by the Germans when his aircraft is shot down en-route to Crete. He is taken to the Schloß Adler (Eagle Castle in German; hence the title), a fortress high in the Alps that is headquarters of the German Secret Service in southern Bavaria.
