The cache is one in a series of Athene Noctua caches located in
(almost) abandonned parts of settlements in rural Cyprus (Paphos
areas. The cache location is easily reached by car when travelling
the Vouni-Panagias-Ampelitis Cyprus Wine Route 2.
When travelling down from the Chrysorrogiatissa Monastry on the way
to Choulou we came across this abandonned part of the Statos-Agios
Fotios village. There are still a few people living in this part of
the village but most houses are empty and falling apart. It is a
jewel of a village with a stunning view over the valley from the
Church area. Do not miss that while having a stroll through the
"main" street. The cache is hidden inside one of the empty houses
and can be reached without much effort.
We had some trouble with different readings of our GPS machines but
the best and closest ones are given in the heading. Please correct
me if you have better readings.
On the way out of the village after placing the cache at sunset we
spotted two Athene Noctua owls from the car, nodding their
approval.
Please respect the people and animals living in the area and do not
leave any rubbish behind. There is no need to dig or break down
walls.
Small note on cache maintenance: The Platonas Two
have agreed to look after the cache when ever I am not in Cyprus.
