The Muppet Show, a half-hour long musical comedy variety show, aired on TV from 1976-1981. The action in each episode included onstage acts and frantic backstage activity among emcee Kermit the Frog, his Muppet friends and a live celebrity. The creation of puppeteer Jim Henson, The Muppet Show introduced us to many endearing characters, many of whom are being celebrated with caches in and around the Whitnall Park/Root River Parkway area.
Rowlf
Even though Rowlf was built for Purina Dog Chow spots back in 1962, he got his big break in show business with Kermit on The Jimmy Dean Show in the mid 1960s. Rowlf, a non-descript brown mutt with long floppy ears, is the Muppet Theater’s resident pianist. A fan of the classics, he is often seen with a bust of Beethoven on his piano. Rowlf is easygoing and riled by very little. He's just as likely to be sharing dry humor as a tune on the piano.
