This cache location is in Stamper Park and was located by
looking for potentially viable and interesting places via a
satellite map view mode. The initial draw was the sports complex
labeled "Lobo Stadium", but the site has a lot of other interesting
locations that Longview residents should know about.
Stamper Park includes a picnic area and grill, pavilion,
restrooms, baseball fields, softball fields, horseshoe pits, play
area, multi-use courts, water fountains, water connection, and a
splash pad.
Who would have guessed that one can also find a
train wreck adjacent to the park or that a wrecked train could
be found 1000-1500 feet away from the nearest rail line?
Stamper Park seems to have played a significant part for
Longview recreation in times past. The site includes an old, now
defunct, pool facility. Here's to hoping that recent improvements
to the park continue. Whether Stamper Park shines again or not,
Longview residents really should know about unique landmarks in
this part of the city.
To find the cache hidden here, drive on past the splash pad and
park in the area adjacent to Fair Street and the baseball
field.
Stealth is a must when retrieving and replacing the cache
container. It is not your average micro - it is custom-made by the
owner. Let's not have it disappear due to carelessness!
This cache contains a log, pen, and can host small swag
items.
While the area is quite open and likely okay for night visits,
its probably not a good idea to venture here alone. Consider
leaving the find for another time if there are vehicles in the lot
at night. This area is generally considered a bad neighborhood,
though the city has done a pretty good job of cleaning it up in the
past few years.
This cache would be wheelchair accessible if there was not a
curb between the parking lot and the cache location. If one parks
somewhere other than the adjacent parking area, it should be
possible to reach the cache as long as it is okay to take the chair
on a grassy surface.
Congratulations on the
FTF
geocachFFer.
