Alfaset gravlund
It was the year 1950 that Arveset and Grav farm was bought with the intention of creating a new cemetary for the local residents. The german war cemetary which was previously located at Ekeberg was moved to this site in 1952/53, and finally put to use in '72.
The onsite chapel was designed by the architect firm Blakstad og Munthe and has decorations by the renowned norwegian artist Jacob Weidemann. There are 12 glass windows to symbolise the seasons. The reliefs "Liv og Død" were done by Ørnulf Bast in 1972.
In the same area you will also find the memorial grounds "Alfasetparken". It contains a water system and round pools surrounded by large flowerbeds with colourful flowers in the summer season. At the foot of the park there is a memorial sculpture called "Silhuetter" (Silhouettes). It was created by Nicolaus Wiederberg and erected in june 1999.
The cemetary has designated spaces for gypsies and Islam Ahmadiyya.
Previously there was a multicache here called Ehrenfriedhof Oslo-Ekeberg, which unfortunately was already missing when I got into geocaching. Another, related cache still available at the time of publishing is Ehrenfriedhof (hka #4), which marks the spot where the german war cemetary was originally located.
Original cache contents:
- Logbook, 2 pencils/1 pen
- FTF-flag
- Mini flashlight
- Soft toys
- Tintin plastic figure
- Chocolate!
- Various other tradeables
Please remember to be respectful. Stealthily does it.
