Examples of the Big Cone Tree are at this site. It is a bit of a clamber to get to. You do not have to go through the fence.

Pinus Coulteri or more commonly known as the Big Cone Tree or the Coulter Pine is a native of the coastal mountains of Southern California.
The trees grow 10-24m tall with a trunk diameter of up to 1m.The outstanding characteristic of this tree is its large spiny cones which are 20-40cm long and weigh 2-5kgs.They are the largest cones of any of the pine tree species.
