Geocache Description:

This cache is part of the SC State Park Geocache Challenge. You are looking for a 50-cal ammo box, off the trail past the overlook. Yes, it is shorter to cut in before the overlook, but it is much easier to get there past the overlook.

Stretched along the Catawba River on the South Carolina fall line, Landsford Canal State Park is home to the well-preserved remains of the canal system that made the river commercially navigable from 1820 to 1835.

The river is home to the largest known stand of rocky shoals spider lilies, a flower species found predominantly in the Southeast. Peak bloom for the lilies is during May and June.

Favorite activities in this Piedmont park include picnicking, nature watching and studying the canal structures. Fishing is permitted along the Catawba, and a paddling trail runs through the park for canoes and kayaks.

This cache is part of the South Carolina State Park Service Geocache Challenge. There are 4 regions within the challenge, with different numbers of geocache locations in each region. In each posted cache, there is a hint, a number that will be used in the formula given in the description for the regional mystery cache, leading you to the final cache in each region, 4 in total. And in that final mystery cache in each region is also a hint, a number that will be used in the formula given in the description for the “Finale cache”, providing the coordinates to reach the final cache, located at Sesquicentennial State Park which entitles the first 5 finders to a special reward. But to do this, you will have to have traveled to all 47 parks, and have found all of the caches! Good luck and most of all, have fun!
