The Good Life #4 Silly,
but it's fun
A series of caches
inspired by the 1970's sitcom The Good Life.
It's Christmas Eve, and
at the Goods' house, Tom and Barbara are making decorations and
crackers ready for Christmas Day.
Each cache is placed near allotment
sites in and around Colchester. There are 17 allotment sites in
Colchester with approx 800 plots. These are East Bay allotments. I
struggled to find much about the history of the land used for the
allotments but if you walk to the allotments from East Gates you
will see most of Doe's Mill now sadly standing derelict, only one
building remains. The building is identified on a watercolour of
East Bridge dated c. 1775 where it appears to be thatched, and is
depicted as part of a 'Farm Yard' on Sparrow's Map of Colchester
1767.
On the back of each log
is a number that you will need to collect to find the
bonus.
Please make sure the cache is
replaced as you found it. You will need a pen and tweezers might be
useful.
Very limited parking maybe available
nearby, see parking co-ordinates, parking may also be available on
East Bay. Don't be tempted to drive down the track as there is a
locked barrier in place and the allotment steward is known to lock
cars in because if they should be there they will have a key. The
cache is a short walk down the track.
