Geocache Description:

As I was out riding my bike this morning (02 Dec 2011) along Dam Neck road, I rode past a small memorial that has stood since June 2003. I stopped to look at it more closely than I had ever done in the past. I was prompted to do so because I had seen a car pulled over in the distance by this memorial as I was still about 3/4 of a mile away. The car drove off well before I arrived at that spot.

I remember that day like it was yesterday, when we heard the shocking news that a young Virginia Beach Police Officer had been killed in the line of duty less than a mile from our house.

The related web page above tells the story of the events of that tragic day.

I thought that it would be appropiate to publish this multi cache in memory of all who have fallen in the line of duty. Police, Firemen, National Guard, Our Military men and women, and Coast Guardsmen. They all put themselves in harms way to "Protect and Serve" the American people.

This has special meaning for us since our youngest son, who is in the Virginia National Guard, is currently forward deployed at a FOB in Afghanistan. I don't think we need to mention just how dangerous an area the Afghan/Pakistan border is.

So while you are working this multi please take a moment to thank, in your own way, those who have honorably served and continue to honorably serve us.

The posted coordinates will bring you to stage 1, the small memorial that has been set up for this young Virginia Beach Police Officer.
At this location note the date on the cross that this tragic event occured and the name of the young Officer. You will need it to get to the second stage.

Second stage:
N36 4A.BCD
W076 0E.FGH
For the date at this location, please use the number designation for month, day, year: (example: today Dec 02, 2011 = 12/02/2011)
A = number of letters in the first name + 1
B = last number of the year - first digit of the day
C = first digit of year
D = second digit of day + last digit of year
E = number of letters shown for middle name
F = number of letters in first name
G = second digit of day
H = number of the month

This is a four stage multi. Please replace each stage as found and let us know if any may need maintenance. If you log a DNF, please include which stage you had trouble with and we will e-mail you a hint.

Stage 1 & 2 can be done anytime. Stage 3 & 4 should only be done dawn to dusk. Please no night time caching at stage 3 & 4.
