Aizu Nakakaido route was developped late 17th century after a big earthquake hit the area and the West route became not available. It runs from Ujiie, Tochigi through Aizu Wakamatu, Fukushima.
Tokugawa Shogunate organized to mark milestones through the route and this is the one of the location.
At this point you can see two mounds both sides of the road.
会津中海道は17世紀の終わりごろに大地震で西街道が通れなくなったときに整備されたルートです。栃木県の氏家から会津若松まで通じています。江戸時代には一里塚が整備され、ここもその一つです。ここには道の両側に塚が残っています。
