Geocache Description:

This is the second cache in this series.

Water is the ingredient necessary for us to survive, but it can also cause us grief as can be seen by floods that have been occurring around our country. Invergordon’s forefathers who brought the water to our district realized that if you bring water to an area to flood irrigate you must have in place a drainage system. Invergordon was the first irrigation scheme to come complete with an Irrigation channel system and also every farm was connected to a drainage channel system. Where you are standing, you will see one of these drainage channels.
What our forefathers had not foreseen was the underground water table of this area. It is called a perched water table. This is formed when water sits on top of hard layer of soil below the topsoil. During the wet winter of 1974 a large portion of the peach trees became waterlogged and died. This pumping station is one of a number installed around our area to help stop this happening again.
At the above co ordinates, I am not your usual cache; there is no container for swaps, only a log, so bring a pencil.
