Geocache Description:

When Trout Scout was a kid he would ride his bike over the bridge to the Honey Hole and fish for bass. He would catch lots of fish right below GZ. So bring a rod and throw out a bobber while you look for the cache.
Lemieux Island is the home of the water purification plant for Ottawa. Alongside the plant is a very large, charming, tranquil park that is overrun by barking, running, yowling, swimming, happy dogs every day. It's a great park because it is huge with lots of room for dogs and ball throwing. It is right beside the river so Fido can cool off on a hot day or get a drink.

To get to Lemieux Island take Scott Street to Bayview Road. Go halfway around the traffic circle and onto Slidell Street. Take Slidell across the Parkway. Keep going over the bridge onto River Street and onto Lemieux Island. There is parking beside the Purification Plant.

It is a short walk and a bit of a rocky scamper along the shore to GZ. Be careful as the rocks are slippery when wet! The cache is a small camo Lock & Lock box in a Black Duck Taped Ziploc Bag. The container is large enough for Geocoins and small Trackables. It should be accessible in the winter but might take a little digging. Please put back the rocks to cover it from the Muggles on the bench above. The bench is a great place to watch the sun go down with your favourite Geo Friend.

After finding the cache make sure to take a walk in the dog park over to the old train bridge on the east side of the island. The train tracks are not in use anymore. You can go through the cut in the fence and up the hill to the tracks and onto the train bridge. It is one of the best views of the Ottawa River with the city in the background. There is a neat old manual train track switcher just as you come up the hill from the cut in the fence.
When we were fearless kids we would jump off the train bridge into the river. One day we were diving into the river and a friend from Glebe High School did not come up from one of the whirlpools. R.I.P. Tony.

Trout Scout & Wood Nymph hope you have fun on the Island and don't forget to throw a ball for a puppy!
