The cache is hidden beside the path near the lighthouse at Black Head, Co.Antrim. There is no need to leave the path to find this cache. The ground falls away steeply on the seaward side - take due care and do not stray on to this area.
Black Head is a striking geological/geographical feature and the lighthouse perched on top sends out a beam that can be seen for many miles around. The easiest way to reach the cache is to use the parking area on McCrae's Brae - please do not drive beyond this point. A tarmaced path will then lead you to the cache site. When you arrive sit down on the little bench for a moment to catch your breath. This is a favourite viewpoint of ours - you can see across Belfast Lough and far beyond. On one evening of exceptional air clarity we could see the sun reflecting from windows in Scotland! Mind you, it can be windy up here - so wrap up well. The cache is very close. Beware of muggles passing by - be at your stealthiest best and return the box carefully so that the lid is uppermost - doing this should help keep its contents dry.
There is also a delightful circular walk from Whitehead which takes you up the "golden steps" and passes the bench - then you can walk around the lighthouse, descend the steps and return around the base of Black Head. This walk is about 3 miles long. If you walk in via McCrae's Brae you will have a lovely stroll of about 500 metres.
