Geocache Description:

With the original CO's permission, I am getting this Historic Hamilton cache up and running again, so to speak. This is a very high muggle area, and the cache is hidden at a different location from the original one placed by Carni. I was bummed that I didn't get around to finding this one before it was muggled a third time...so here's hoping that this time it sticks around a little longer. You are looking for a nano container..

Historic Hamilton: Gore Park

Historic Hamilton will be a series of caches that serve to bring cachers to historic places in and around the City of Hamilton. These caches can be placed by anyone, and are not limited to one CO. If you know of a historic place that you would like to bring people to, feel free to add it to the series!

Gore Park , or the Gore on King Street as it was called during the early years of its existence, has been a bone of contention ever since its creation. Concession 2 lot 14, Barton Township was part of the original Crown Grant to John Askin on July 10, 1801. He sold to Nathaniel Hughson senior who sold to James Durand around 1806.

On January 25, 1816, Durand and his wife sold off their land to George Hamilton and left town. Hamilton became a ceaseless promoter of his new town. He actively encouraged settlement and busied himself laying out streets and planning a town centred on the Courthouse Square. He also owned a strangely shaped piece of land, which, when combined with a similar piece to be given by Nathaniel Hughson, would form a Town Square right in the centre of Hamilton. Hughson reneged on his part of the deal and this triangular gore of land just stayed undeveloped and soon turned into quite an eyesore in the middle of town.

The Gore Park Fountain was originally constructed in 1860 It is is one of the most amazing and perhaps magnificent work of art that you will take a view in Ontario, Canada. The Gore Park Fountain was donated by the Bank of British America to be placed at the center of Gore Park.

The Gore Park Fountain was dedicated by the Prince of Wales. However, it would later fall into despair and it was removed during 1959. But, the present Gore Park Fountain has been constructed this was a sesquicentennial project in 1996.

The fountain that we see today is only the exact replica of the original Gore Park Fountain that was built during 1860.

The Fountain’s top bowl as well as its spiral components is from the original, and the design and materials were cast by the McCoy Foundry yet the design were still based on the original Gore Park Fountain.

As of today, The Gore Park Fountain is made from Old World Stone which has provided the 35 foot diameter of the Indiana limestone curbing. Even though, time has changed The Gore Park Fountain, nonetheless the beauty of The Gore Park Fountain still amazes dozens of people.

Woo hoo..congrats to betweenhereandthere on the FTF...somehow I knew you would be FTF for one of these new ones!
