Forming of Rombon / Entstehung des Rombon

Mount Rombon belongs to the Upper Triassic which was formed more than 220 million years ago and is the most common rock in the Julian Alps. It is also found at Kanin, Polovnik, Bavški Grintovec, Mangart, Jalovec, Mojstrovka, Stenar, Ozebnik, Triglav, Komna, Krn, Bohinjski greben and Ratitove. Its beds are mainly of layered Dachstein limestone and include remainings of stromatolite-lamins of ancient blue-green bacteria. On those layers calcite crystals were sedimented in the region between low and hight tide. When the sea was covering those areas limestones with big heart-shaped megalodontid shells were sedimented on the ocean bed. Those shells prove that today's mountains in this area were formed on an ocean bed.

If you look carefully during your hike you might still find such shells.

Die Schichten des oberen Teils der Obertrias (Nor und Rhät), entstanden vor 220 Mio. Jahren und sind das meistverbreitete Gestein in den Julischen Alpen. Diese Gesteine sind auf grösseren Flächen in den Gebieten der Berge Kanin, Rombon, Polovnik, Bavški Grintovec, Mangart, Jalovec, Mojstrovka,Stenar, Ozebnik, Triglav, Komna, Krn, Bohinjski greben und Ratitovec zu beobachten. In den Südkarawanken kommen diese Gesteine im Bereich der Berge Kepa, Belšcica, Stol, Begunjšcica, Košuta und Olševa vor. In den Steiner Alpen werden sie in den Berggebieten des Kocna, Grintovec und Turska gora beobachtet. Meistens sind diese Schichten als ein schön geschichteter Dachsteinkalk entwickelt. Das Gestein besteht aus Schichten gebänderten Kalksteins mit Überresten von Stromatolithen-Laminen ehemaliger blaugrüner Spaltpilze bzw. der Zyanobakterien. Auf den Belägen dieser Organismen wurden im Flachmeer im Bereich zwischen der Flut und Ebbe Kalzitkristalle abgelagert. Als das Meer die Gebiete bedeckte, wurden auf dem Meeresgrund die Kalksteine mit den grossen herzförmigen Megalodontiden-Muscheln sedimentiert. Diese fossile Muscheln beweisen, dass die heutigen Gebirge auf dem Meeresgrund entstanden.

Look around you and enjoy the great panorama. Then find the mountains on the picture below. You see three mountain ranges with rock walls, but each of the three has a different landscape type underneath (see the regions in the picture). Send me an e-mail telling me the different landscapes and also why you think that they developed so differently. Additionally I would be happy about a picture of yourself on the mountain top.

Du siehst drei Bergkämme mit steilen Felswänden und darunter jeweils eine andere Landschaftsform. Schreib mir in einem Mail, welche das sind und warum du glaubst, dass sie sich so unterschiedlich entwickelt haben. Außerdem würde ich mich sehr über ein Gipfelfoto freuen.
