Geocache Description:

Across route 19 and slightly removed, the original Magnesia spring was discovered. As everybody knows magnesia is valued in the treatment of many stomach disorders. This twenty-four feet deep famous spring was discovered about 1883. This was not the first spring house on this spot; there was a old house there earlier. As the mineral water boom grew, it was decided to move the house to a new location and this new springhouse was built about 1892.

The house just to the south of the springs which made residence for the owner had another purpose. A line of this water was piped into the house, so in the winter months, the visitors stayed in this warm house while drinking the water. This would keep the springhouse unheated all winter long and still serve the guests. The large porch extending around the front and sides of the springhouse gave ample space for chairs for guests to sit and drink the water in comfort.

The springhouse now is privately owned and can't be seen up close, but with a little imagination one can think about how great this must have been in its time. The cache can only be found by turning east on Mcclellan St. at Traffic Lt. and follow road around. This is a one way street. Parking with permission in the small parking lot near cache. Please keep off the sign. BYOP
