La casa de las siete chimeneas

La casa de las siete chimeneas se encuentra situada en la Plaza del Rey y fue construida entre 1574 y 1577. Los planos son obra de Antonio Sillero con modificación de Juan de Herrera.
Actualmente el edificio alberga el Ministerio de Cultura y ha sufrido diversas modificaciones, entre las que cabe destacar las realizadas en 1583 por Baltasar Cattaneo, comerciante genovés, que fue quien añadió los tejados a cuatro aguas y las chimeneas que le han dado su nombre.
Otro de los inquilinos famosos fue el marqués de Esquilache, ministro de Hacienda de Carlos III. Durante el motín provocado por la prohibición del marqués de llevar capa larga y chambergo, fue saqueada por los exaltados.
La casa de las Chimeneas fue declarada en monumento histórico artístico en 1948. La nueva legislación de patrimonio trajo consigo un nuevo nivel de protección y en 1955 es declarada Bien de Interés Cultural.
Pero la casa también tiene una historia de fantasmas: en noches oscuras se ve el fantasma de una doncella en el tejado de la casa.

The house of the seven chimneys is located in Plaza del Rey. It was built between 1574 and 1577. It was designed by Antonio Sillero with some modifications of Juan de Herrera.
Today the building houses the Ministry of Culture and has undergone many changes, including most notably those made in 1583 by Baltasar Cattaneo, Genoese merchant, who first added the pitched roofs and chimneys that have given his name.
Another famous tenant was the Marquis of Esquilache, Finance Minister Carlos III. During the riot caused by the prohibition of the Marquis to take long coat and hat, was sacked by the exalted.
The House of Chimneys was declared historical artistic monument in 1948. The new heritage legislation brought a new level of protection and in 1955 was declared of Cultural Interest.
But the house also has a ghost story: on dark nights is the ghost of a girl on the roof of the house.
