Up in the remote areas of the Great White North, Christmas gift
giving is more practical than in the bigger urban areas. My buddy
lives in Maple Lake, where it seems to be -25° with at least 60 cm
of snow on the ground for at least three months of the year. His
choice of gifts isn’t frivolous but more about comfort,
practicality and sanity (it's a lot of long, dark, cold nights). In
fact, this year for his true love, he was able to get all his gifts
in one day making only nine quick stops.
Stop 1. the local donut shop (the
French crullers make great ornaments)
Stop 2. The liquor store for a 24
pack of lager (to help spread the Christmas cheer)
Stop 3. A toque from the sports
apparel store (his true love's favourite colour is yellow)
Stop 4. The smoke shop for a
festive box of cigars (mostly for the warmth they give)
Stop 5. the convenience store
frozen food aisle for a box of French toast griddle cakes
(convenient, tasty & easy to store - perfect for stocking
stuffers)
Stop 6. The comic book shop for
the latest Captain Canuck issue (a great read to cozy up by the
fireplace)
Stop 7. Oops, back to the donut
shop for a pack of donut holes (for filling all the spaces in the
stocking - and for Santa's snack)
Stop 8. Back to the conveneince
store for more French toast...just in case (it also makes a great
hostess gift)
Stop 9. Lastly, The local
outfitters for a couple of trendy turtle necks (gotta be well
covered in the winter)
Boy, what a lucky gal she will be this Christmas.
