Geocache Description:

Let's go caching all 366 days of the year!

Why 29/2 Multi-Event?

2012 is a leap year, otherwise known as an intercalary year.

The problem is that our calendar tells us that there should be 365 days in a year, but the Earth actually takes 365.25 days to orbit the Sun. If this anomaly was not corrected for, after a while we would be marking the Summer Solstice in the middle of Winter! To correct for this anomaly, we add an extra day - 29 February - every four years. Thanks to this, we get the opportunity to sneak in an extra day's caching in 2012.

This event is also part of a world wide multi-event and a unique geocoin is being prepared for the event. We are sharing the colour scheme with funkymunkyzone from Auckland and Guwapo from Dunedin. Once the artwork is finalised, it will be posted here along with a link for ordering.

When:

On 29 Feb 2012 of course! Meet at 6.30pm.

What:

Since it is a week night, we will keep it simple. A family friendly social gathering, BYO takeaway picnic dinner, if you wish. Come and swap your tall tales about the one that got away, or compare notes about those fiendishly difficult puzzles, or just come to put a face to those names you've seen in the log books. Most importantly, come along to tick off the 29th of Feb on your finds calendar.

Where:

Percy's Reserve, Lower Hutt. A large grassy area with plenty of surrounding native bush, and of course a few nearby caches just waiting to be found.

Updates:

Coins are available for $15 each. To place your order, fill in this form: Order Coins Here. Coins will be available for collection at the event. Only 75 of the New Zealand version have been minted, and 25 of these are available for attendees of this event. No limit on quantities per cacher, but I will reserve the right to renegotiate large orders in the event that demand far exceeds supply.

Other events sharing this coin design: The Leap Year Worldwide Multi-Event (Auckland) - funkymunkyzone, and Leap Year - 29/2 World-Wide Multi Event (Otago) - Guwapo.

All 25 coins are now allocated so the order form has been disabled.
