Geocache Description:

Welcome to the SCP-Spruce Creek Park Series, these caches are located in or near Spruce Creek Park.
The park is open daily sunrise to sunset with no fee. Access to the park is off of US-1 with parking and restrooms available and leashed dogs are permitted. Each cache in the series has a different D/T (difficulty/terrain) rating to help you fill your D/T grid.
You may have some disagreement with some of the D/T combinations but you will surely experience one of each of the different terrains and difficulties if you complete the series (with the exception of the 1 terrain rating that requires wheelchair access). The paddle caches all have the mandatory 5 terrain rating even though they are probably easier to reach than some of the lower rated terrain hiking caches. Depending upon rain and tides many of these caches will require difficult hiking through thick slippery mud, ankle to waist deep water, saw grass, prickly vines, downed trees and brush, saw palmettos (wear leg protection in these areas) and at certain times of the year there may be flying insects (bug repellent is a good idea). Some other of the caches are very easy to access on well maintained trails and are child friendly. All the caches, easy or difficult, will take you to beautiful natural wetlands, salt marshes and pine forests.
In several years of hiking all through this area many times we have never encountered any dangerous animals, but you are in the wild (the park signs warn of alligators and snakes) so use caution, be alert, prepared and be sure to bring more than enough water for your adventure.
Please comply with Geocaching’s CITO (cache in trash out) standards and leave nothing behind, this park is remarkably free of trash. Also try not to damage any of the plants and grasses. While some caches will be in wooded areas, no cutting, chopping or hacking of the vegetation is required to get to a cache so please be mindful of this pristine wilderness and have fun.
This cache is one of the original seven “Teehee” caches placed in the park by Gymnothorax. Finding these caches was the inspiration for this series so a big thank you to Gymnothorax for allowing us to adopt these caches and make them part of the series.

This cache is located in Spruce Creek Park in Port Orange. It's a tough cache to retrieve, as it's a good half-hour's walk to ground zero and it is up about 12' in an oak tree out on an island in the salt marsh. As far as climbing goes, the tree is not very conducive to climbing...

Bring water, be prepared to encounter lots of it at times, when I placed this, it wasn't too terribly deep. The island is surrounded by chest-high reeds and is visible from the observation tower 1/8th mile down the trail. From the location in the tree, a very nice view for sure is gained. It's a great park with lots of amenities, a fishing pier, and is great place to spend the day.

This cache cannot be accessed with a boat directly. A boat would take one to a location near the island, that's all. To my knowledge, motorized boats are not allowed. Kayaks or canoes only please. Also, do watch for wildlife. This is a salt marsh. Boars, maybe bears, snakes, and a host of other creatures out there would appreciate us not wrecking their home. You are entering into their territory out there, so be mindful of that!

Please, as always, don't go trampling around in the marsh and squishing baby mangroves or anything, walking out over the marsh weeds is okay though. And also, please don't destroy any wildlife or plants or trees or anything of the like. Thank you! This is a great park that needs to be kept awesome!

Congratulations to BMFJ40/JMFJ23 for the FTF!!!!
