"Jiromaru Spinach" is one of the Japanese tradition vegetables.
At the end time of Taisho Era, the native variety and Western kind
of this ground were made to cross, and it grew in the Inazawa
Jiromaru district. Then, very good harvest was obtained. This
spinach was called "Jiromaru". The Jiromaru spinach came to be
known outside the prefecture, and these kinds spread afterwards to
the whole country. However, the hybrid circulated as the time
passed, many new kinds came to be produced, and the quantity of
production of the Jiromaru spinach decreased.

「治郎丸ほうれんそう」は、日本の伝統野菜のひとつです。この稲沢市治郎丸地方では、大正時代の末頃、この地の在来品種と西洋品種を交雑させて栽培したところ、とてもよい収穫が得られました。このほうれん草を『治郎丸』と呼びました。その後、治郎丸ほうれんそうは、県内外に知られるようになり、この品種は全国へ普及しました。しかし時代が経つに従って交雑種が流通して、新しい品種が多く生産されるようになり、治郎丸ほうれんそうの生産量は減少していくことになります。
