Geocache Description:


This is a Redux cache of Team Geoblast's Makapu'u Bug Jar cache located at the same location. It was archived because stage one went missing (so please re-hide well!). With Team Geoblast's permission, I have moved and replaced stage 1 and am using the original stage 2 to keep this great cache alive!

Welcome to one of the world's most scenic park and grabs. Please stop in to exchange travel bugs as other cachers have since August 2003



Because you are among the more fortunate, you will find yourself hunting with a view of both the windward and east island shoreline. Afterwards go ahead and join all the muggles over at the new 5 million dollar lookout area. From there, enjoy amazing views of Rabbit Island, Waimanalo, Lanikai and Kaneohe.

The final cache is placed a few feet off one of the main trails leading to the top of Makapu'u Ridge. Although the focus of most visitors will be in the opposite direction from you, please consider the long view from the parking lot before making either of these grabs. We intentionally kept the cache away from the overgrown areas because Kiawe is not a friendly plant but the trade off is that you are more exposed to muggles.

This area was once home to a fishing Heiau and has some significance in Hawaiian history. It is state land and hiking is allowed, the trail you will ultimately follow is not a geo-trail. We do ask that you please show this area the respect that you would at any place of worship however. Do not stack up rocks or disturb anything in this area unnecessarily... or anywhere on the island for that matter.

The DLNR guy that takes care of this place is named Kevan (key vun). If you see him (usually there in the morning hours) please take the time to thank him for the work that he does. He is a one man army that deals with all kinds of around the clock misuse/abuse of this area. He was helpful in making sure that we placed this outside of the Heiau boundaries and he also keeps an eye on the cache for us. Kevan was born and raised in Hawaii and loves to share local knowledge about the area if you have questions.
