Parking for this hide can be found on the top of Amethyst blvd. Right where it meets Almond Ave.
You will be walking down a flood control channel also used for hiking and horse back riding when not being used for storm run off. There is a dirt road but you will also be walking over a dry rock bed. Short hike from the car . Bring a pen or pencil none of the hides provide one.
Dry detention basins are typically dry
depressions except after a major rain
storm when they temporarily fill with
storm water. These basins slow the rate
at which storm water from new developments
enters streams and rivers and thus
help prevent flooding; however, dry detention
basins are not very effective at
removing pollutants because the
storm water from smaller storms passes
through more quickly. Smaller storms
(with less rain) contain higher amounts of pollutants than larger storms. The side
slopes of these basins are generally vegetated with grasses.
Never go into a dry detention basin in the rain .
