Geocache Description:

Dogs on a lead please.

Moore Nature Reserve is a 200-acre site in Warrington, north Cheshire. The reserve consists of five large lakes surrounded by extensive woodland, meadows and wetlands, made accessible by a network of paths and bird hides. Its many habitats provide a home for a variety of birds, mammals, insects, plants, amphibians and fungi. The reserve is open to the public at all times, 365 days a year. Moore Nature Reserve is managed by wardens for the Waste Recycling Group Limited.

This cache is next to the old Runcorn to Latchford canal. The construction of this canal was finished in 1804 and was built to enable boats to get to Manchester by avoiding the shallow, winding lower stretch of the Mersey. The canal is wide and shallow as it was built to take Mersey Flats. The construction of the Manchester Ship Canal made the Runcorn to Latchford redundant and it dried out in the 1970s. This length of canal fills up during winter but usually dries out by late summer (but do not attempt to walk across it as it is very soft under foot and the silt is very deep).

Cache placed with the kind permission of Moore Nature Reserve.
