Geocache Description:

You are looking for a magnetic nano. Bring a pen and exercise stealth; road and foot traffic is all around you.

Three things about Garnet Street you might like to know: 1. MURDER. In the days when this road was known as New Gravel Lane, The King's Arms pub stood at number 81, probably behind the wall across the road from the cache. It was here, in December 1811, that the publican, his wife and their maid were found battered to death. This came 12 nights after a savage attack that left four dead in their home at nearby 29 Ratcliffe Highway . Londoners were familiar with violent attacks in the street at night, and this area had a particularly bad reputation for robbery. Yet news of the murders shocked Londoners because they took place inside people's homes. John Williams, the only suspect, hanged himself in prison. His body was carried on a cart past the houses of his victims and he was buried with a stake through his heart. The Ratcliffe Highway Murders, however, remain officially unsolved and have been overshadowed by Jack the Ripper's reign of terror in 1888. 2. BRIDGE. There's a bascule bridge in the middle. At one time it could be raised when the dock was in use to allow ships to enter. 3. ALF GARNETT. The house seen in the opening and closing titles of early, 1960s episodes of BBC sitcom Till Death Us Do Part was located at the other end of Garnet Street. It's from this street that writer Johnny Speight took the Garnett family name (Alf was called Alf Ramsey in the pilot episode!) The houses were demolished in the 1980s though, and a terrace of newer homes and an estate agents now stand in their place. For Americans, Till Death Us Do Part is the show that inspired All in the Family.
