Sgt.Rock say's
I am always quick to salute the sacrafice made by fellow soldiers. This is certainly true in the case of the 4th Battalion of the Royal Naval Division 'The Collingwood Battalion'. The 700 strong battalion had trained at the nearby Blandford camp. On June 4th 1915 the Collingwood's formed part of the forces taking part in the 3rd Battle of Krithia. They managed to advance, seizing the Turkish lines, but when the forces on their right flank had to fall back they came under devastating fire leading to massive losses (over 500 killed). The battalion was never reformed. Sgt Rock salutes the bravery these men showed and earnestly suggests you spend a little time at the memorial nearby.
