How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Welcome to this cache, this is one of three caches all placed in
celebration of Christmas 2011 by Charlie, Abi and Jack and are to bring recognition back to three of the
sciences. Whilst I have devised the puzzles, my children have each
selected the locations.

The cache is not located at the coordinates given; they represent a car park in Briestfield which is an ideal (and free) place to park. If you choose to do all three of the cache’s then walk out of the car park and turn left walking through the village for about five minutes until the road bends sharply and starts to descend. You will notice a lane that veers to the right (before the hill) walk along this road and you will see on your GPS where to go from there. The caches are located in that you can either do them and then head straight back to the car park, or go onto one of the other series in the area. If you do wish to arrive back at the car park, then after any of the cache’s keep heading in the direction you are until you reach a fence and seemingly the end of the field. In the top right corner you will notice a stile, climb over it and keep going in that direction until you end up back in Briestfield at the bottom of the hill (cross roads) walk right, up the hill and you will be back where you started.

The puzzle is set out below and at first glance may look particularly difficult. It is not, spend some time working out what you need to do and you will find it to be extremely simple. However, if you get stuck and find it impossible a quick email to me asking for either ‘hint’ or ‘answer’ is all it takes. But it is likely you will have solved a similar puzzle when at school and so a bit of revision may be all it takes.

There are two questions and both will lead you to the same coordinates. If you are the school boffin and consider yourself skilled at puzzles or indeed science then please do attempt this. However, if you prefer conical hats and standing in the corner then take the dunce question. All you clever clogs out there should shout about it in your log
