Geocache Description:

At the heart of the city center.

The cache, a magnetic nano, is hidden at an area that is surrounded by ancient remains and classical modern buildings.

Remains:

1.The remains of the Roman Market are a couple of blocks to the east from the cache, on Filippou st.

2.Plateia Dioikitiriou (square) one block to the North. Between Olympou and Agiou Dimitriou streets.

Interesting buildings:

1.Dioikitirio, from which the square was named, at Agiou Dimitriou st. It's a classical modern building built in 1891 by the italian architect Vitaliano Pozeli. Originally, the building was consisted of three floors and served as the Chair of the Turkish Prefect (Wali) of Thessaloniki and public service of the Ottoman state. The fourth floor with neoclassical pediment was added in 1955. In 1907 the Government House hosted the Turkish Law School. After liberation, it housed the General Services Administration. Currently is the headquarters of the General Secreteriat of Macedonia-Thrace (Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace until 2010).

2.Caravan Serai, two blocks to the South, on Venizelou st. In the Ottoman period it was used for the accommodation of travelers. Its construction dates to the mid 14th century. The current building was built during the interwar period. Since 1958 and until 2010 it was used as the City Hall. The cache is really easy, so please don't spoil it with photographs of the place.
