At this time of the year there seems to be many traditions that our family shares. One of them is having our family read Clement C. Moore’s ‘The Night Before Christmas’ together. And our favourite part of the story is when the story teller first sees St. Nicholas and the reindeer…
“When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But a miniature sleigh, and nine tiny reindeer,
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
"Now, Dancer plus Blitzen! now, Rudolph plus Dasher!
Now, Prancer then Vixen! On, Ekkert! Faster Vixen!
On, Comet plus Cupid, plus Donder! He called them.
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!"
It’s one of our favourite stories and I hope it’s one of yours as well. Merry Christmas.
