Pt Pleasant Beach, Fisherman's Memorial Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

CreakyCachers: Checked the area yesterday, it is a mess from Sandy, perhaps when the memorial is refurbished in the future I or another CO can place a new cache here, but for now my cache is gone.

Geocache Description:

Fisherman's Memorial

Point Pleasant Beach

New Jersey

The Fisherman's Memorial Statue ( by Jill Ocone ) is located at Loughran's Point Park along the Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey side of the Manasquan Inlet. The lonely fisherman stands tall, watching over the fishing vessels as they leave, and greets them upon return. Unfortunately, not every fishing vessel that enters the Atlantic Ocean through the Manasquan Inlet returns. The names of those vessels and fishermen lost at sea are inscribed along the wooden fence which surrounds the Fisherman's Memorial Statue. He is a guiding light for all vessels and is a reminder of just how threatening the ocean can be sometimes.

The Fisherman's Memorial Statue

This statue is located in a park that contains a small boardwalk which provides a nice area to walk along the water. Names of fisherman who did not return from sea are memorialized on small plaques on the railing around the statue. A dedication plaque for the park located at the entrance reads: Dedicated to the memory of Councilman Thomas F.K. Loughran, a strong advocate of the publics right of free access to the waterfront. Acquired from the Federal Government to be used as a public park in perpetuity. The names of the Mayor & Council members are listed, along with the dedication date of September 19, 1989.

Also for the local fisherman "A great place to wet a line".

Parking is available nearby year round, but during the summer season there is a charge, log only bring a writing impliment.
