The Indiana Spirit Quest series of geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries built by Hoosier Pioneers. In just over a year and a half, the quest has grown to over three hundred caches hidden in twenty-six Indiana counties, and the hiders consist of several cacher teams, which are comprised of A Man and His Dog... and one who is a Dog and her Woman. Over 600 cacher teams have logged over 7,000 finds.

INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST #279

”Spanning Two Centuries"

Welcome to the Hancock County Vietnam War Memorial, Center Township, Hancock County just south of Greenfield on SR 9. This memorial is in a small and very well kept park with access via a asphalt driveway complete with parking for up to two vehicles. A well lit set of flags leads to the memorial under a canope of small trees lined with American Flags. The memorial lists the names of all those from Hancock County who sacrificed their lives for their country in Vietnam. Thanks to Muirwoody for pointing out this fantastic site and providing the historical details of the single grave located here.

Pictured is the grave of "William Hatton: The only Revolutionary War veteran whose burial in Hancock county is documented. He enlisted in Virginia as a Private in Cpt. Churchill Jones' Company in Col. William Washington's Third Calvary Regiment. He served two years and was wounded in the leg at the battle of Bacon's Bridge in S. Carolina. His grave was moved from another site in Jackson Township, Hancock County in 1976 to coincide with the Bicentennial celebrations. The little plot is called Revolutionary Park

The cache container is a camouflaged pharmaceutical pill bottle Please leave it at least as well concealed, if not better, than you found it. If you find fallen or worn US flags at the graves of veterans, please take a moment to upright or replace them. Dispose of worn US flags in a respectable manner.    If you find the coordinates to be a little off, do not hesitate to post a waypoint with your log.

WARNING:  FIND LOGS ON THIS CACHE THAT INDICATE NIGHT CACHING WILL BE DELETED WITHOUT NOTICE!

"Indiana Spirit Quest" is brought to you by the following fellows of GEOISQ*: The SixDogTeam, Kodiak Kid, THE SHADOW, Team Shydog, Rupert2, Torry, ~Mystery Dog~, Team Tigger International, Cache Commando, bbsurveyors and DoverDuo."
