Hello Sailor (Hampshire) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Tim & June: Very sad to say that having survived nearly seven years, this cache has gone missing.

As the location has obviously been compromised we have placed another cache nearby.

Geocache Description:

Tim & June are founder members of the
The Geocaching Association of Great Britain

Portsdown Hills just north of the M27 afford a splendid view over Portsmouth Harbour.

The cache is situated in a good location for those wishing to visit Fort Nelson and The Armouries.

Parking at the free car park opposite the Fort is the best option for locating the cache.

After visiting the cache there is plenty to see and do in the Town of Portsmouth, from its new shopping complex in Gunwharf Quays to the historic Old Porstmouth.

Gunwharf Quays is well signposted upon entering the Town, it is full of outlet shops, wine bars, themed restaurants, multi-cinema and bowling alley.

Portsmouth was established as a naval dockyard during the reign of Henry V11. In the dockyard itself are the Royal Naval Museum, HMS Victory, the flagship of Nelson on which he died at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805, and the hull of the Mary Rose, Henry V111’s warship. The Mary Rose was raised from the Solent seabed in 1982.

Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth in 1812 and his house in Old Commercial Road has been restored to show middle class living in mid 19th Century.

Portsmouth is an important ferry port for both Continental and Isle of Wight traffic. It has a small but thriving commercial port, and several thousand small yachts are moored in the harbour. Consequently there is plenty of activity on the water to watch.

The cache is a fairly large ammo box filled with goodies which include, a video, paperback book, mans travel kit, a bag, teddy bear, kids toy and other items.

There is also a “Travelling Diary” in this cache and the first finders will have the opportunity of being the first to move it to another cache after making an entry. For example you could write a poem, a message to other cachers or a brief story of how you found the cache, the date you found it and your caching name etc. Please take the diary and place it in your next cache. The diary can then travel from cache to cache recording events and anecdotes from fellow cachers until it is eventually full when we hope it can be returned to us.

Happy Caching
