Geocache Description:

Event Coordinates are for the park entrance, we will gather in a close and convinient spot at 10:00 am, have introductions, then head out onto the trails.

If you are like me, and many other cachers, you felt the need to have a 4 wheel drive vehicle available for caching. Perhaps you like the additional security it gives you knowing that if you are out on your own, in unfamiliar territory and happen to find yourself in a situation that might be a little tricky to get back out of that you can just drop it into 4H and ease your way back out onto the paved surface.

But have you wanted to use your 4x4 vehicle to actually go after those caches with the 4x4 attribute? Maybe push it a little further than the soft grass on the side of the dirt road near the end of the guard rail.

I decided to run a 4x4 attribute site list, and found either not many around this area, or ones for which the 4x4 attribute didn’t really apply. After talking to ARF! about the lack of 4x4 rated caches in this area, he suggested I expand my search a little bit and take a look at INTERLAKE STATE RECREATION AREA just outside of Lynnville, IN.

I was surprised to find that Interlake is a “free to enter / open sunrise to sunset / off road and equestrian park / open to the public / with nearly 30 caches”. That got me to looking up Interlake online, checking out the photos, some YouTube videos etc. After careful review of the information available I thought to myself, boy I’d like to give that a shot, but I’m too chicken to try it alone. Wouldn’t it be fun to get together a small group of likeminded cachers to all go at the same time? An event sounded like the optimal means to that end.

I have never been there before, and ARF! has not been there for years, but he assures me that parts of the park can be a challenge. I’m not sure how many of the caches will be accessible to street stock type vehicles like mine, maybe a half a dozen, maybe 20, I think it will have a lot to do with the weather leading up to our attempt.

My intent will be to start at the entrance, work our way through the grasslands, easing our way into the pine forest, and if the conditions are right, and we are still brave enough, tackle some on the blue trails to the North of the park. I have also created some large 11x17 trail maps and have super-imposed the cache locations on the map to help us navigate our way through the maze of trails.

SUGGESTIONS FOR THE EVENT
