Bienvenue au pied du Terril Albert Ier

Vous voici face à ce géant de 105 mètres, composé des 4.257.000 m3 de stériles des puits "9" et "10" de la Société Anonyme des Charbonnages de La Louvière et Sars-Longchamps.
C'est en 1910 que la société commenca le creusement du puit "9", en 1914 on y débuta l'extraction du charbon jusqu'à 810 mètres de profondeur.
On ne débuta la production du puit "10" qu'en 1923, profond de 1000 mètres. En 1960, la S.A. des Charbonnages de La Louvière et Sars-Longchamps ferme ses deux derniers puits.
Quatre ans plus tard, le site minier sera assainit et il ne restera rien de l'imposant triage-lavoir qui faisait façe au terril. Aujourd'hui on y trouvera une cité de villas (derrière la rue du Four à Chaux).

Fort heureusement, le terril fut sauvegardé, il se boisa, en grande partie, naturellement et il a reçu, il y a quelques années, le privilège d'être en partie amménagé par la ville.
Un chemin monte, dorénavant, jusqu'au sommet du géant de pierre qui domine Saint-Vaast.

Welcome to the foot of Spoil tip Albert Ist

You are now facing this giant of 105 meters, consisting of 4,257,000 meters3 of excavated mining debris from the wells "9" and "10" of the La Louvière and Sars-Longchamps Coal Board.
In 1910 the company began digging the well "9", in 1914 there began the extraction of coal at 810 meters of deep.
There began the production of the well "10" in 1923, 1000 meters deep. In 1960, the La Louvière and Sars-Longchamps Coal Board closed its last two wells.
Four years later, the mine site will be cleaning up and nothing will remain of the imposing washing and sorting that faced the spoil tip. Today we will find a city of villas (behind the Four à Chaux Street).

Fortunately, the spoil tip was saved, he bolsa, largely, and received, a few years ago, the privilege of being partly rebuilt by the city.
A path leads from now until the top of the giant stone overlooking Saint-Vaast.
