Geocache Description:

Caravan friendly cache in a nice place to stretch the legs on the outskirts of Torquay, close to an area where many things are coming soon !

Grasstree Park is in an area that is undergoing rapid changes. As you approach the carpark, you will see the recently completed Surfcoast Shire buildings and a new Industrial Estate that is rapidly developing. Further up the highway towards Geelong, huge housing developments are under way and there are also plans for a new school near the shire offices.

Let's hope all this development doesn't endanger public open spaces like this park.

Grasstree park itself is under development too as the shire slowly remove non-indigenous vegetation and try to return areas to something resembling the native bush. At the right time of year, the many grasstrees which give the park its name put on a a spectacular display.

The park is popular with dog walkers, being an off-leash area and there are often overnight parkers there as well. There are large open areas for dogs and kids to run around in.

There is plenty of parking off the highway via Messmate Road (note, parking coords are from Google Maps, but should be accurate enough).

Do Not try to stop on the highway !

The cache is a 1 litre Sistema and some agility will be required, hence the terrain rating. Reptilian wildlife may be in the area when it's warm, so keep your eyes peeled.

I plan to replace the cache container soon, with something more robust.
