WARNING: STAY AWAY FROM THE GIANT HOGWEED

Initially we thought this plant was Devil's Club. Unfortunately it is in fact Giant Hogweed. There are two major differences between the two plants: Devil's Club is a native of Western N America, and has been used extensively as a medicinal plant; Giant Hogweed, on the other hand, is an invasive plant brought in as an ornamental from Africa, and far from healing, its sap is HIGHLY TOXIC and can deliver THIRD DEGREE BURNS if you get it on your skin and then expose it to sunlight. If the sap gets in your eyes IT WILL BLIND YOU.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO KNOCK THE PLANTS OVER. STAY WELL AWAY
The CVRD has been working hard to rid the area of Hogweed and I see no evidence of it the last couple of years.
