This is the second in a series of caches placed near to old Railway Stations in North Yorkshire. Unfortunately most of these stations have long since ceased to operate, however some of the old station buildings have survived.
This station opened in 1848 and was closed to passengers and goods in 1959. The station consisted of two platforms on either side of Herdland lane (or the A61). It also had a two storey station master house and single storey booking office. The yard consisted of a loop and five sidings, a three ton crane and a cattle drop area.
This station was a link in to the two main railways line within the area –York to Darlington or Harrogate to Northallerton so it was popular with both passengers and goods.
Nowadays there is no evidence of this station except for a few platform edge stones has been used as kerb stones for the nearby plant centre and there are two railway cottages which has managed to survive.
