Geocache Description:

The cache is NOT at the posted coordinates, but it's a good place to park your car if you plan on walking this one. This is an easy multi to celebrate the City of Torrance’s centennial anniversary and our 100th find.

The four waypoints are located within 500 feet from the posted coordinates and it is only a slightly longer walk to the final cache. Park your car, and enjoy a nice walk around Old Torrance!

Throughout this multi, you will be visiting landmarks that have earned recognition from the Torrance Historical Society. Through their ongoing landmark plaque program, they have now placed thirteen plaques on landmarks that have been deemed historic. You may want to take the time to visit the rest of these sites and their plaques. To see the full list of landmarks, and more information on the Torrance Historical Society, visit the Torrance Historical Society's website.

Now for the waypoints!

Some of the original landmarks remain; some have been taken over by businesses. At each landmark, you will have to find a number. Once you’re done, some simple calculations will produce the coordinates. The landmarks can be visited in any order:

WP1: Torrance Public Library – N 33° 50.099 W 118° 19.084

On the front lawn of the building, you will see a bust of the city’s late founder Jared Sydney Torrance. Find the year this bust was dedicated and take the last two digits of the year and call that number A.

It is currently the location of the Torrance Historical Society Museum. Stop inside and learn something new about our fair city!

WP2: Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company – N 33° 50.135 W 118° 18.968

In front of the building, there is a lamppost. On the lamppost, you will find an 8-character number ending with the letter “E”. Take the first two digits and call that number B.

It is now the host of the Red Car Brewery & Restaurant. Stop in for your mid-cache meal!

WP3: Torrance Post Office Marcelina Station – N 33° 50.016 W 118°18.951

On the southern corner of the building, there is a year on the cornerstone. Take the last two digits of that year and call the number C.

The Torrance Post Office Marcelina Station is STILL here! Amazing!

WP4: Torrance City Hall – N 33° 50.018 W 118° 19.015

Above the door, there is a mosaic. Count the number of birds on the mosaic and that number will be D.

Fun fact: while this building served as the city hall on the first floor, there was also a jail in the basement. There are stories of children walking to school and seeing the inmates shouting from sidewalk level windows, "Hey kid! Let me out of here!"

The calculations will only involve the decimal portion of the latitude and longitude. For example, if you add 1,234 to N 33° 50.000, the result is N 33° 51.234.

(Posted latitude) – B + C + D – 2 = Final latitude

(Posted longitude) – A – C – (D x 2) = Final longitude

Once there, please use your stealth when retrieving the cache. Especially when the antique fair is in town, GZ is swarming with muggles, so plan your trip accordingly! You’re looking for a pill bottle. The cache contains a log and some trinkets, but BYOP. Once done, please be sure to hide it exactly as you found it.

Congrats to OJWan for FTF!
