Seat Cover's Last Stand Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

NoconaVirginia: This cache isn't getting people out of town and off the sidewalks like I'd intended. I guess not many like country road drives any more.

Geocache Description:

You're looking for a very well hidden bison tube. Please re-hide it like you find it. It can be a muggley area at times. Parking is readily available near the cache. Pay close attention to the hint.

Back in 1994, when I started working in this area, I ran across this location. There's a huge oak tree that had a brass plate fastened to it. The plate said something like "Seat Cover's Last Stand...Ride on Forever" and it had a date on it.

I used to stand at this tree, wondering about Seat Cover. Who was he? What happened to him? Was he a biker that crashed here? I was fascinated with this myth.

One day, as I checked the tree like I always did when I was in the area, the brass plate was gone. I felt a sense of loss.

Only recently, I found out the real story behind the brass plate. Seat Cover is the CB handle of an older fellow in the neighborhood. Near this oak tree was where he always parked for his deer stand. Even after he stopped hunting as much, he still would go to "his" deer stand to hang out with the other hunters. He's gone now, I'm using this cache to honor him.
